Wow...here it is - Thursday

I've finally made it through a day without getting nauseous or having a headache (must have been fat/carb withdrawal). I had a very emotional meeting with Andrea, my nutritionist today, and between the two of us, I think we're going to work together to keep everything ticking along in a sensible way...in fact, we've already figured out the next goal - so stay tuned!!! I'm stoked again - she always does me good - with her history of running marathons, it's great that she knows what I go through, and has ways and means to keep me fired up and dedicated - Thank you, Andrea!!!

I also thought it might be good to add a photo - then add more once a month or so, to see if there is any visible difference...it's a start anyway, right? Now, all I need to do is teach Aramis how to use the camera!!

Quick run-down of the day -
Breakfast as usual (oatmeal and brown sugar), Lunch was some whole wheat spaghetti and some chicken (the Safeway kind that is rotisseried - I pulled the skin off it), an can of ensure for a snack before swimming, and then some mixed vegetables for dinner after swimming.

Total calories: 1578, Fat content: 33% - which apparently is okay - monosaturates at 12%, both polyunsaturates at 12% and saturated sitting at 7%.

Wednesday's news

Woke up feeling better, which I guess is a good thing, given what happened yesterday. Problem is that I've been fighting a raging headache all day - not sure what's up with that - but even the ibuprofen hardly touched it. I'm no be likin' this - no be likin' it at all!!! I bailed on yoga tonight, mostly because I didn't want to end up having an anneurism in downward dog or something exciting like that.

Not too much exciting in the news - big brouhaha about Direct Energy doubling rates on household natural gas charges and whether or not it will prompt the Alberta Government into activating rebates a month early or not. I would think that this "windfall" that the government now has at its discretion may be just as good to be utilized in giving the taxpayers a break, but time will tell, I guess.

The head of FEMA got replaced and the outgoing head honcho tried to pass the buck onto the state and municipal government - near as I can tell is was the three amigos who may be to blame - municipal, state and FEMA who should hold the bag and use the outcome as a learning ground for not allowing it to happen again.

Okay, how did my day go? Well, it went something like this:

oatmeal and brown sugar for breakfast (guess there's going to be a pattern there)
Can of Ensure for lunch (headache had set in - I wasn't very hungry)
Tuna, whole wheat pasta and green beans for dinner with a bit of salt and some butter.

Total calories: 1459 Fat: 22% - 4% saturated, 10% polyunsaturated, and 7% monounsaturated.

Man, I wish this headache would go away!!!

Why is it?

That people in the US seem to think that if their dog swallows a knife whole and manages to survive that it's incredible?? I ask, why leave the bloody knife within reach of the dog in the first place? I saw this story on the news last night and almost got sick. A St. Bernard puppy managed to swallow a whole bread knife (intact) and had to have surgery to get it removed. My only question is - how could anyone knowingly leave a knife within reach of a puppy who has been known to shove anything and everything in her mouth? Honestly, I just don't get it... if it were a child that had done the same thing - family services would be all over it in no time!!

President Bush still amazes me - every time he opens his mouth without the benefit of his speech writer, I wonder how this guy ever even got through grade school let alone became President of the United States for not one, but TWO consecutive terms. I've been watching some of the coverage from his visits to Texas and Louisiana in the aftermath of Rita and Katrina, and I'm still wondering if he's ever taken a basic grammar course in his life. It's no wonder kids these days don't know how to read and write properly - look at the example they have to follow! See ma? I don't need no school learnin' and I can still become President!!!

Still more amazing stuff from the states...I think good ol' George W. is an alien put on this planet to prove that life is NOT more intelligent in outer space.

Saw the installation of Michaelle Jean as Governor General of Canada. I mean no ill will against her, but do we really need a Governor General any more? I mean, it's not like we're part of the British Empire any more, is it? Also, after the debauchery that Adrienne Clarkson made with exorbitant spending on the Government's tab, one would think that the position may be becoming a bit archaic - no more than a figurehead to cheer on troops on their relative assignments and act as the Queen's representative in Ottawa. I think we should rethink this office and the office of Lieutenant Governors across the country at this point - then deal fully and completely with the Sponsorship Scandal, the Federal Debt, and deal with our own backyard before wasting more taxpayers' money. Hell, why not go after improving health care, the rising cost of education, class sizes in public schools, the taxation system, and trying to generally make life better for Canadians? Geez, when did we lose sight of all this?

Also, I have a gripe with the laws governing small business - why is it that companies can get out of ANYTHING they owe their creditors by the simple means of a name change? I'll never see the money that Pro Fund owes me because they changed their name from Pro Fund International Mortgage Inc. to Pro Fund International Finance Inc. What a joke!! I have no recourse - the judgement I filed, the costs involved in suing them, the other creditors that are owed money (along with amounts they owe other employees that they've had in the past - to which I've found out I got off EASY), are all left out to dry, while these shysters can continue to bilk other people out of their money - nice scam, huh?

Also, what's up with Paul Martin vowing to wait until February to call an election?

Okay, I'm feeling sick today...just wanted to vent... there was a bright spot today - my ex boyfriend is wanted by the police. Karma is a wonderful thing...

The eating today went well: Breakfast was oatmeal again with some brown sugar
Lunch was green beans and three scrambled eggs (no milk added)
I promptly got sick after lunch, so laid on the couch to see if I started to feel any better, then made some chicken noodle soup to see if it would sit okay. So far, so good. I just finished a can or Ensure, which brings the day's calorie count to 1412 and other than feeling a bit nauseous, I'm doing okay. 38% fat intake today - bit higher than I'd like - but 12% monounsaturates, and 11% Polyunsaturates, and 8% saturated...is good, no? Let's hope this is a short lived bug.

Day one - on track!!!

Well...here we go

Okay, I'm going to try this - we'll see if it works...I've never put a blog together before, so this is all new to me.

First off, I've set this up as a place for general babble, for recording my thoughts and feelings, and generally a way to let friends and family know what's going on in my head from time to time. I've been looking for a way to lose weight and keep myself in check with regard to my goals and my commitments to keep me on track.

Anyone can post comments here, I've left that totally open - it may not always be about just the weight, but also other stuff that's going on in my life - so be warned!!

Okay...without further ado - commitment #1 will be to reduce the amount of fat that I'm eating. I will try to increase the good fats and reduce the bad fats that I'm eating for two weeks.

The overall goal is to be eating better and to see the changes by the time Triathlon season starts next year. The plan - make a change every two weeks and try to commit to it for the duration of the two weeks before I start adding more changes. The hopes in this case are to make the changes almost unnoticeable and to make it so that I get time to get used to one change before making others.

It sounds like I'll have a huge support group behind me...so no excuses for sabotage or failure here. Thanks everyone and feel free to post whatever, whenever!!!
