Okay...I've come to a decision...

I need to kick start the weight loss again - I've been stuck for over a month now and I'm not sure what's causing it...so...with fear of being lambasted, I'm going to take drastic measures...

Starting Monday, I'm going to go on a diet that worked wonders for me the last time I decided to lose weight. It's brutal, and usually messes with my metabolism, but I think I need to do something. It means cutting way back on calories, but I really don't know what else to do.

It goes something like this - Mondays are nothing but clear fluids, Tuesdays you add two servings of protein, Wednesdays you add two salads, Thursdays you add breakfast (an egg, piece of toast and orange juice), Fridays you add a fruit, Saturdays you add another fruit and Sundays you do the same thing as Saturdays - then go back to clear fluids on Monday.

It's gross - means a huge cut in calories, but I need to do something!!!

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I actually thought you were on track (with the exception of those days where you buy wagon wheels and sabotage everything). The key approach needs to be to establish a lifestyle that you can sustain indefinitely, not a diet that will last only until you reach a goal. Because once you reach that goal, then the old habits come back. But if you establish a new lifestyle then you won't be inclined to ever have another wagon wheel again. Clearly exercise needs to be a bigger part of this equation. Simply starving yourself is only going to cause your metabolism to slow down and go into famine mode. Your caloric intake right now (if it's accurate) is less than my basal metabolic rate -- the number of calories I burn doing nothing. The difference is in the muscle mass. Having muscle mass gives you the ability to burn calories without effort, so you gotta get to that gym (or on the bike). Now I'm no expert on dieting of course but I think that radical changes aren't the answer. Stay the course and don't panic. Most of all, do NOT sabotage the effort by having these "blowout" days. Each time you do that, you destroy at least a week's worth of good progress. So it's no wonder that you're not making headway. Your goal should be to drop about 1 pound a week... no more, and no less. So you've got a solid year's work ahead of you. Make the plan, and stick with it all the way through. It won't be easy, and there's no magic solution. Your boundless determination and positive attitude will get you there, I know it.
